Face scrub bad?

Exfoliating the face is a regular part of the beauty routine for many people. For some it is even part of the daily routine. However, this is not so wise. Exfoliating can damage facial skin and disturb its natural balance, causing more skin problems than it solves.

Exfoliating the face causes irritation

The reason many people use a scrub is because it removes dead skin cells. You rub the granules over the skin and remove the dead skin cells. But they strip them away so well, damaging the skin layer underneath and causing irritation. Especially with vulnerable skin such as facial skin, skin problems can arise. Think of dry skin or irregularities. Scrub can be suitable in places where the skin is less vulnerable, such as your nose or the rest of your body.

Remove dead skin cells on the face

Still, you don't want to let dead skin cells build up on your face. They can cause your skin to become dull or that impurities arise. Of course we don't want that! You can opt for a peeling mask or exfoliant. Fruit acids ensure that the dead skin cells disappear. However, if you have sensitive skin, this can be a bit aggressive and it is better to opt for a milder option. The konjac sponge exfoliates and is suitable for even the most sensitive skin. Depending on your skin type, you can use the sponge weekly or even daily. In addition to removing dead skin cells, it also improves blood flow and provides extra strengthening of the skin.

Think about the consequences

If you still want to use a scrub, check carefully what the granules in the scrub are made of. The small grains, also known as microbeads or microplastics, end up in our wastewater and seas. These microplastics are found in our fish and are almost impossible to clean up. So make sure that the granules are 100% natural and can be broken down. So scrubbing is not only bad for you, but also for our nature.
