SMPL Lotion review - by The Green Cosmetry

What makes this product a Lotion?

First of all, a short introduction to moisturizing products (balms, creams, lotions and oils). There are three types of moisturizers:

1. moisturizing ingredients (humectants)

2. Emollient Ingredients (Emmolients)

3. and occlusive ingredients.

The ratio of these three groups makes this product a lotion: the SMPL Lotion consists of approximately 60% humectant and 20% of each of the other groups. Humectants are water-grabbing ingredients and are more prevalent in lotions. Lotions are thinner than creams and therefore spread better. On the other hand, oily ingredients like the emmolients and occlusive agents are also necessary for nourishing and softening effect of the lotion.

Ingredients in the lotion

Glycerin is in many skin care products because it is a great moisturizing ingredient that can trap water and keep it on the skin. So this is a humectant.

Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil (AKO) is a natural ingredient in beauty products such as the SMPL Lotion. The AKO contains approximately 13% saturated and 86% unsaturated fatty acids, such as 60-71% oleic acid and 20%-30% linoleic acid. These ingredients are emmolients. In addition, the oil contains vitamins A, C and E. All these components are important because of their antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-aging, antibacterial and soothing effect / properties. Apricot kernel oil is especially interesting for people with sensitive skin and who like natural ingredients, because it is a non-scented vegetable oil.

Coconut oil contains higher amounts of nutrients such as vitamin E and bioactive compounds such as polyphenols (plant materials with antioxidant properties). Other interesting properties: it protects our skin against UV radiation, it reduces protein loss in the hair and softens our skin.

Cocoa butter is also an emollient and increases skin hydration. It helps improve skin elasticity. It reduces the appearance of wrinkles and protects the skin against environmental factors such as UV light and radicals.

All in all, a fine combination of ingredients and therefore a very suitable Lotion for even the most sensitive skin.
